Solstice is an open-source high-performance Monte Carlo ray-tracing package for use in solar energy simulations. This page aims to summarise how to build Solstice on Ubuntu 18.04 using as many distro-provided packages as possible.

Packages not included in Ubuntu:

Packages in Ubuntu 18.04:

 • libyaml 0.1.7
 • CMake
 • AsciiDoc 8.6.10 (apparently it is being replaced by http://AsciiDoctor.org)
 • OpenMP support (various options, libgomp, libomp5, libiomp5...)

Pre-requisites

You need to specify a language like this: ...

Note: CMake on Ubuntu 16.04 is too old for this, requires version 3.8 or higher.

Embree

Invalid language.

The above steps don't yet result in Embree being installed under /usr in the machine. There are CMake scripts that seem to provide support for accessing the library from the home directory location, but more investigation required. It is suggested to run source embree-3.3.0.x86_64.linux/embree-vars.sh, but this doesn't seem to work.

Using the suggestion to download .rpm packages and then converting to .deb results in libraries that are located in the non-standard location of /usr/lib64 (standard for RPM distros, but not standard for Debian distros). It may be a better option to create .deb package using dtar from the linux binary tarball, or else to build Embree entirely from source.

Building from source requires ISPC (added above)
